70’ Dodge Challenger R/T

New Project! Ever since seeing Vanishing Point as a young kid I’ve dreamed of owning a challenger and it’s finally happened. Not only do I love the looks of this car, I’m excited to build up a classic that I can truly use as a daily driver if I want. The car has the perfect size and power to be able to fit in with modern traffic without feeling too small or slow and with the addition of a 5 speed gearbox which I plan, should be an awesome highway cruiser.

A little back story; car was purchased from a die hard mopar fan in Decatur Indiana. Unfortunately he didn’t have a great deal of info about the history of the car except that it had been in California for all of its life until he shipped it to Indiana in 2019. Car was in overall great shape minus a rusted trunk floor and windshield cowel. From what I can tell, the car has definitely spent the last couple of decades sitting and is still sporting tires from the 80s. Previous owner had already begun the tear down of the car, sending the engine out for disassembly, cleaning and magna-fluxing and installing a new interior when he came across a 440 challenger that he bought and decided to restore instead.

Overall goal for this project will be a complete mechanical restoration in aims of getting the car back on the road by spring 2022. Once driving, aesthetics can be tackled including a new paint job (although i do dig the current patina).

Above shows process of removing upper cowl and replacing with new sheet metal. A pillars had some pretty bad rust as well so needed new metal.
